You would like to know for your own safety that you are using a qualified, licensed electrician.  Even if the job is very small, big things can negatively occur by an untrained person. All electricians working

in the State of Georgia are required to be licensed by the Georgia Construction Industry Licensing Board (GA CILB). Homeowners should be aware of this fact, and should always request their electrician's license number so that the company/individual's licensing can be looked up and verified.

It's also important to know the different classes of electrician licensing:

• Electrical Restricted, Class I license:
  Once completing 4 years of supervised training and passing an electrical exam, an apprentice electrician will become a master electrician. But this electrician can only perform work on smaller electrical, residential services.

• Electrical Unrestricted, Class II license:
  Once completing 4 years of supervised training and passing an electrical exam, an apprentice electrician will become a master electrician. Unrestricted Electricians are licen
  sed to work unsupervised in a residential home and on any commercial electrical application in the State of Georgia. ABI Electric DOES carry this type of license.  Call for details.

What About Electrical Contractors and Insurance?

All electrical contractor companies in the State of Georgia are required to be licensed as an electrical contractor in the State of Georgia. Part of the licensing requirement is that the company must maintain a minimum adequate general liability insurance policy. This is a measure taken to protect the homeowner or business owner in the event of damages. The State also requires that each electrical contractor company be supervised by a licensed Master/Unrestricted Electrician. This is a measure that could prevent problems from occurring.
